We are only a couple of weeks away from the start of the 2022-23 school year. Over the summer there has been a significant change in the school lunch program which parents need to know. In the previous two school years during COVID, the federal government allowed all students to receive lunch and breakfast at no charge. School districts were reimbursed for the cost of these meals. However, the federal government has ended the free breakfast and lunch program for all students starting in September.
As we look forward to the start of a new school year, we wanted to make you aware of this change to serve all kids free meals. Edmeston is no longer able to serve free meals to all students. In order for students to receive free or reduced price for breakfast and lunch, families need to complete a Free & Reduced Lunch application. The completed Free and Reduced lunch application will determine a family’s eligibility for free, reduce-price, or paid meals.
Children are automatically eligible for free meals if anyone in their household receives SNAP, TANF, or FDPIR benefits. Families with Medicaid are encouraged to apply as they may also qualify, depending on their income. The free and reduced lunch application can be found in the calendar and on the webpage. Please complete the application form and return it to the business office by October 1, 2022.
If you have any questions, please contact the business office.
